Who is your community?

My community consists of artists, musicians, business owners and entrepreneurs in Sioux Falls and beyond. The veterans that have a track record of making things happen, as well as the newcomers figuring out how to navigate the landscape.

Give us a behind-the-scenes look at your average day.

My average day can consist of a few scenarios. It usually starts with dropping my daughter off at school, consuming copious amounts of coffee and addressing the plan of attack I have set for myself the night before. Some days, it’s shooting photos, other days, it’s editing video or responding to emails from potential clients. I spend a lot of time scheming. Blog posts, social media campaigns, organizing and performing at events. I like my plate clean, but I also keep my plate full.

What challenge in your life or work are you most interested in overcoming?

Lately, my biggest challenge has been that of personal space. I’ve been in need of my own place. A place to work, scheme, dream and build.

If you could do any job, what would you do and why?

I would do exactly what I’m doing right now. I’d just do it better.

What is the most beneficial aspect of living in the OTA region when it comes to your career?

I believe being located in the OTA states allows me to have a much larger impact on my community. There is still so much growth to be had in this area. I view Sioux Falls as a blank canvas for a lot of the things I hope to accomplish.

At what intersection do you live your life?

I live at the intersection of Creativity and Action.

Where do you think good ideas come from?

Good ideas come with experience. The more testing, poking, trying and failing you can do the better. This helps one recognize when a good, or bad idea is in front of you.

What’s one current trend you think will change the world?

Connectivity. Being connected to people via technology allows for major changes and collaborations to be made.

What’s the best way to put inspiration into action?

To act. To not allow anyone, including yourself, to talk you out of trying.

What’s the greatest risk you’ve taken?

I recently bought a small 1800 square-foot warehouse space in downtown Sioux Falls. Probably the scariest leap I’ve taken so far.

What’s your biggest failure, and what did you learn from it?

Undercharging for my work. I’ve learned that I care enough and do a good enough job to charge for the services I provide to people.

Who do you hope to leave a legacy for?

For my daughter.

The OTA Builders are a group of individuals who thrive on possibility and use all opportunities they are given to grow both in their careers and in their passions. We seek creatives who are tenacious and strong-willed movers and doers and are driven to make a significant impact on the people around them and the community they call home. These people recognize their talents and capabilities and find ways to continuously grow and learn from them. Why is this you?

I feel that I have a track record of taking action, through that action I have been able to figure out what works for me and what doesn’t. I’m constantly seeking out new opportunities to learn and grow, both personally and professionally. I’m a leader that’s also not afraid to take guidance and be lead. I believe in making the most of this short time we’re given on this Earth.

What project (passion or professional) do you plan to focus on as part of the OTA Builders Program?

I recently purchased a property in the Uptown neighborhood in downtown Sioux Falls. This space will serve as a home for my businesses, but I would also like to utilize this space for gathering with like-minded individuals in my community. I plan to hold events, art shows, as well as some free classes that will be open to the public.

What change / advancement do you hope to achieve as part of the OTA Builders Program?

I hope that the OTA Builders Program would give me access to more like-minded individuals in my region. Being part of this program would help me with focusing in on what I hope to achieve in the next year.
